Mountaineers Legend Pat White Agrees to Coach At WVU

Photo: WVU Athletics

What a homecoming it will be for West Virginia football legend Pat White. It was announced yesterday that he will return to his Alma Mater as an Assistant Quarterbacks Coach and Assistant to the Head Coach. There’s a whole reunion going on in Morgantown (WV) right now: 1st Coach Rich Rodriguez was re-hired as West Virginia’s Head Football Coach this past December, and now his former QB Pat While will be joining him on the sidelines. It should be an electric scene at Milan Puskar Stadium on August 30th when the Mountaineers take the field against Robert Morris.

Pat White was a 2X Big East player of the year, had a 35-8 record as a starter, won 4 bowl games, broke numerous records, and is recognized as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in college football history.

Following his illustrious career as a player, he began his coaching journey on the college level in 2018 at Alcorn State (QB Coach), he then made stops at USF (RB Coach - 2020), Alabama State (QB Coach -2021), and Campbel (QB Coach - 2022), before becoming an assistant at the NFL level with the LA Chargers. Now he’s back to where it all started in Morgantown, West Virginia.

WVU Head Coach Rich Rodriguez put out a statement about Pat White’s return in the Mountaineers official release: “It's really special to welcome Pat White back to Morgantown as a member of our football coaching staff. He has been involved in some of the biggest wins in program history, and he will be a great presence in our quarterback room. Pat and I have been through so much together, and I am really proud of the quality of coach and mentor to young players that he has become.”

ELITE 2025 TEXAS HSFB RECRUIT GRAYSON RIGDON TALKS DECISION TO SIGN WITH ARIZONA STATE

One of the most decorated players in Texas high school football history, Grayson Rigdon recently signed with the Arizona State Sun Devils on National Signing Day (Feb 5th). The class of 2025 3-star running back is a 4X state champion, 3X 6-Man Player of the Year, and finished his high school career with an impressive 59-1 record. He played for three high schools throughout his career and won at least one state championship at each school.

Rigdon started his career at Strawn High School (TX), a 6-man team, and won a state championship with a 15-0 record during his lone freshman year there. He then transferred to Benjamin High School (TX), another 6-man team, and became a 2X state champion during his two seasons with the Mustangs. Rigdon is known by many as a “6-man high school football legend”, as he went 45-0 at that level. For his senior season of high school, he transferred to a traditional 11-man team, Columbus High School (TX), and dominated at that level as well, proving a lot of doubters wrong. Rigdon rushed for 2,701 yards and 39 touchdowns during the 2024 season and went on to win another state title.

I spoke with the Texas HSFB standout about his decision to commit and sign with Arizona State.

Why Arizona State?

“Being able to talk to Coach Dillingham (Arizona State HC), a great guy, loved what I heard, love how they plan to use me.”

Rigdon had other offers from multiple Power 4 programs: Arizona, Cal, Houston, NC State, and others.

Did the way ASU used standout player Cam Skattebo play a role in his commitment?

“Definitely. I actually watched him when they were playing Texas, I was like, man, I can see myself playing in that offense.”

What type of player is Arizona State getting?

“They're getting a dog, someone who’s not satisfied at all. What I did in high school don’t matter, I’m going to prove myself on the big stage.”

More fun facts about Rigdon

Not only is he a sensational player on the gridiron, but he is a walking bucket on the basketball court as well. During the 2023-24 basketball season, Rigdon led the nation in scoring averaging 45.1 points per game. He also told me that his older brothers inspired him to play sports at a young age, and that Christian McCaffrey is his favorite NFL player and someone who he models his game after.
